Sunday Lunch

I don’t diet. I don’t need to. I’m so picky about what I eat, I could never possibly gain weight.

I skip lunch because I dont want to order in. When i get home, I’m too tired to make something myself and i hate the food my mothers maid makes. So i’ll eat an orange or some cookies or something.

But on Sundays I cook. So I eat. And so does Faria! (she starves the rest of the week too, and stores her sunday food like a camel)

Lemon Pepper Shrimp Linguini

I used penne instead of linguini, because thats what I had lying around.

For the white wine i used grape juice, which made it sweeter, so i added more lemon. Love the combination of sweet and sour.

The Great Chocolate Chip Cookie Quest

It is my firm belief that the perfect chocolate chip cookie is the most wonderful thing in the verse.

I’ve never felt like I was in the cookie business. I’ve always been in a feel good feeling business. My job is to sell joy. My job is to sell happiness. My job is to sell an experience.
Debbi Fields

The best one I ever had was 6 years ago at Pier 39, San Francisco. It was warm and soft and crumbly and had just the right balance of chips to cookie.  Since then I’ve been trying to recreate the same cookie in my own kitchen.

Its not such a bad thing, though, because any form of chocolate cookie is at least edible. Mine range from passable to good to delicious. But my goal is melt in your mouth perfection, which I haven’t reached yet.

So I continue my quest and experiment. Trying out different cookie recipes, tweeking ingredients here and there. Its the journey not the destination and this one is paved with sweetness.

These are the cookies I made last week. Pretty good but a lil too sweet and the texture wasn’t as crumbly as I would like. Still they were chocolate chip cookies and that means yummy.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup margarine or butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg

1tsp vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix margarine, sugars and egg. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until light brown, only 7 minutes. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet and enjoy!
Makes about 5 dozen cookies

Cookie Monster Inspires Me

Pop culture lesson 1: When something is a sucess, cash in on it with endless sequals and spinoffs.

Our Food Fights has been so much fun that I decided to create a spinoff blog.

It won’t be as focused as that one, just an account of all my obsessions. And I have a few.

aww shucks

Cooking comes to mind right away, I love feeding people. I’ve been asked for my recipes a lot. So you can find them here.  Also I’m always exchanging recipes with Anisa, so this could be a good place to do that. We will likely ramble on nonsensically. 🙂

Then there are movies and tv. Pop culture in general I guess, and our response to it. Expect a lot of linkage to tv tropes.

My latest obesession of course is Battlestar Galactica. It’s not all that new, I’ve been obsessing for about 4 months. But my love has intensified now that I have someone to share it with.

Oh and fashion! Especially disecting what people wore to award shows.

But mostly it will be about cookies
